Challenge

Pumpkin spice has long reigned as the iconic autumn flavour, overshadowing other seasonal offerings. Costa Coffee’s Maple Hazel range, while popular among loyalists, struggled to compete with the cultural dominance of pumpkin. The challenge was to elevate Maple Hazel as a compelling alternative and ignite a playful rebellion against the pumpkin spice monopoly.

Solution

​As part of Costa Coffee’s ‘50 Ways to Leave Your Pumpkin Latte’ campaign, I contributed to the creation of the Pumpkin Flavour Blocker—a Chrome plug-in that replaced pumpkin spice mentions with bespoke Maple Hazel visuals. The playful and engaging tool was supported by a suite of vibrant assets that showcased Costa’s warm yet rebellious tone. Complementary social media posts amplified the campaign, sparking engagement and driving attention to the Maple Hazel range.

The designed visual assets for the plug-in ensured that they captured the campaign’s spirit while standing out online. Additionally, supporting social content was created to maximise the campaign’s reach.
