Challenge
Mental health challenges, arising from diverse life situations, are often expressed through emotions such as feeling trapped, stretched, doubtful, or overwhelmed. Communicating these deeply personal experiences visually required a minimalist yet evocative approach. A motion graphic series was conceptualised to capture these emotional states using black-and-white visuals and kinetic typography. The aim was to support Mind, a leading UK mental health charity, by providing adaptable assets for Out-of-Home (OOH), merchandise, and their website.
Solution
Dynamic motion graphics and carefully crafted typography were combined to depict the emotional impact of mental health struggles. Animations, inspired by keywords like “drowning,” “stressed,” and “trapped,” were designed with movements and distortions to reflect the associated sensations. A stark black-and-white palette was used to heighten the rawness and universality of these emotions. The series, adaptable for integration into Mind’s campaigns, also stands as a powerful standalone resource. By visualising mental health struggles, the project raises awareness and encourages individuals to seek support.
